Espresso & Ice Cream (Affogato)
It's always great to have a dessert that is both delicious and simple to make, they do not come much easier than Affogato, espresso poured over ice cream. It's hard to beat the combination of hot and cold, sweet an bitter, with the added cunch of some roasted almonds.
I tend to make this if I'm having a few friends over for some grub, takes a lot of the hassle and prep out of cooking for friends.
You only need a few items,
To make it could not be simpler, fill you stove top coffee maker with water and freshly ground coffee and put it on to heat. While this is heating line up your cups or glasses, I just use a selection of my favourite coffee cups, place a generous scoop of vanilla ice cream into each cup. At this point I usually place al the cups on the table and wait for the mocha pot to start gurgling.
Once the espresso is made, pour about of a shot of espresso over each scoop of Ice cream, flake over the roasted almonds and eat immediately. My advice is to stick a second pot of coffee on as I can guarantee that your friends will be looking for seconds!
PS; if you don't like almonds, as Catherine doesn't, you can add a little whipped cream or some shavings of high quality chocolate, whatever takes your fancy.
